In the mid 1950s two Methodist churches, nearly opposite each other on Holderness Road, decided to join together and form the ‘Holderness Road Methodist Church.’
A new, light and welcoming church building was constructed at that time to unite the congregations. Refurbishment of the worship area was then undertaken in 1997 to make a flexible, comfortable and pleasing space.
We have a range of interest groups that meet throughout the week to cater for all ages.
For the younger age groups we are pleased to be able to offer the choice of joining Scouts/Cubs; Guides/Brownies and Girls’ Brigade.
There are groups for those of ‘older years!’ There are two weekly meetings for the ladies, one of which meets during the day. On the last Thursday of the month the men are invited to join the Thursday evening group
We actively support Christian Aid with our very special ‘Rainbow’ bags, as well as a number of other Christian based charities including Jacob’s Well at Beverley. Each year our ladies adopt a particular good cause as their own fund raising focus.
Our church building has been remodelled incorporating a cafe area at the back. The cafe is open 2 days a week serving hot dinners and snacks at very reasonable prices and gives us the opportunity to meet people who live in the local community. .
Our emphasis in worship is to blend the best of the old with some of the emerging styles of music and praise that communicate in modern ways including the use of videos.
We are renowned for our friendly welcome and our church community is a good reflection of the area in which we are situated, with all sorts and types of people engaging together in relaxed worship and thoughtful action.
